We just launched! We need YOU to help us become helpful to student pilots. Please , review your current or past CFIs, schools, and write DPE gouges! You can add your CFI or flight school if they are missing. Our site is, and always will be, completely free.

Using RateMyCFI

What the site does, how to use it, and the rules everyone is held to.

Finding an instructor or school

Start with the airport

Open Find a Flight Instructor. The most useful filter is Near airport. Type a code or city, then widen the search radius to include nearby airports. Instructors will show up at all fields that they instruct out of.

Narrowing it down

  • Result Type — switch between instructors, flight schools, and examiners.
  • Minimum rating — 3+ through 4.5+.
  • Certificates held — CFI, CFII, MEI, as well as various specialties.
  • Has taught — what students reported training for with them.
  • Aircraft — search by type, useful if you need tailwheel, complex, or a specific make.
  • Part 61 / 141 — training type, and what part students reported training under.

Reading a result

The number on the left is the overall rating; underneath it is how many reviews it came from. Sort by Most reviewed when you want confidence rather than the top score.

Search result pages are limited to 20 results per page.

Nobody there?

Thin coverage at an airport usually means nobody has added an instructor or school yet rather than that nobody teaches there. Adding a CFI/School takes a minute, and you can leave your review at the same time.
