We just launched! We need YOU to help us become helpful to student pilots. Please , review your current or past CFIs, schools, and write DPE gouges! You can add your CFI or flight school if they are missing. Our site is, and always will be, completely free.

Using RateMyCFI

What the site does, how to use it, and the rules everyone is held to.

Claiming a page

What claiming does

  • Allows you to edit page details: photo, bio, airports, certificates, aircraft, contact details, and for schools, Part 61/141 approval.
  • Unlocks the ability to reply to any review left on your page.
  • Adds a verified badge so users know the details came from you.

What claiming does not do

Claiming never lets you edit, hide, or remove reviews about you. If a review breaks the standards, it should be reported to moderators.

Verification: Instructors

  1. Confirm your email address, then open your page and click “Click here to claim this page.”
  2. We generate a one-time code. Write it by hand on a piece of paper. It is shown only once.
  3. Photograph your flight instructor certificate next to the handwritten code. The code is what proves the photo was taken for this claim.
  4. Cover up your signature, address, date of birth, and private details. Leave your name, certificate type, and instructor ratings readable. Examples are shown on the claim page.
  5. Submit for review.

Your certificate is used only to review the claim. It never appears on your profile and is never shown to other users. It is deleted once the review is finished, and in no case is kept longer than seven days.

Verification: Schools

Schools should verify by creating an account with an email associated with their organization. Navigate to your school's page and complete the claiming form. Monitor your inbox for a follow up email from RateMyCFIs.com moderators. Be prepared to provide a reasonable means of demonstrating you are authorized to act on behalf of your organization.

Verification: Examiners

Examiners should verify by creating an account with the email on file in the Designee Management System. Navigate to your examiner page and complete the claiming form. Monitor your inbox for a follow up from RateMyCFIs.com. Be prepared to provide a reasonable means of demonstrating you are the examiner listed on the page, such as a Certificate of Designation and Airman Certificate.

One page per account

A user account is limited to holding one page of each type: instructor, school, and examiner. If your page has been falsely verified by another user, you can still claim it and both claims will be reviewed. You may also email contact@ratemycfis.com for issues with claiming and merging profiles.

Instructors and schools linking to each other

A verified instructor may list the schools they teach at on their profile. Their school has the option to approve or reject affiliation with that instructor. If the affiliation is approved, the instructor will also show on the school's page.
