We just launched! We need YOU to help us become helpful to student pilots. Please , review your current or past CFIs, schools, and write DPE gouges! You can add your CFI or flight school if they are missing. Our site is, and always will be, completely free.

Using RateMyCFI

What the site does, how to use it, and the rules everyone is held to.

What this site is

RateMyCFI is a public directory of US flight instructors, flight schools, and pilot examiners, with reviews written by the people who trained with them.

Why it exists

A student's choice in flight school or CFI can (and will) impact the entire trajectory of their aviation career. Often, students have no say in their instructor assignment. The goal of RateMyCFIs is to give flight students a leg up in setting their training and career up for success.

What you can do here

  • Find an instructor or school near an airport, filtered by rating, certificate, aircraft, and whether they teach under Part 61 or 141.
  • Find an examiner and see reported pass rates, typical fees, and read other applicants' narratives of their checkride.
  • Leave a review of an instructor or school you trained with, or report a checkride you took.
  • Claim your own page if you are an instructor, school, or examiner, to edit its details and reply to reviews.
  • Add someone who isn't listed — the directory is built from what users contribute.

Pages

Pages are added to the site through automated processes and user submissions. An unclaimed page is not written or endorsed by the person it represents. A claimed page means that the person the page represents has verified who they are and controls the details on the page. The person who the page represents never has control over their ratings, or reviews left on their page.

Ratings and reviews come from details people choose to share. Nothing on RateMyCFIs is an endorsement, safety assurance, or substitute for meeting an instructor, school, or examiner for yourself.
