Piedmont Flight Center was an excellent school to complete initial flight training at. They operate like a small-town Part 61 school. My training period was sporadic, so I was never assigned one instructor, but I got to fly with 5 different CFIs during my time training. Each of them had their own strengths and weaknesses. Many of the instructors fly larger aircraft as a full-time job and have extensive real-world knowledge. Every instructor had excellent stick and rudder skills and a good teaching ability. Ground instruction culture was not emphasized, and I completed ground school online. I had only 3-4 dedicated ground sessions throughout my entire time training there. Advanced ground knowledge was not provided during my training. Briefings were thorough and covered a lot, however. The school did require SFRA training and a SFRA flight before my checkride due to its proximity to the DC SFRA. Most aircraft were generally well maintained, and major issues were fixed right away with onsite maintenance. Some instruments on the 150 were INOP for the entirety of my training. It was pretty easy to get on the schedule, but they did not have an in-house DPE, so I had to coordinate my checkride with a DPE about a 45 minute flight away. Overall, PFC is an excellent school, with a very knowledgeable team of instructors behind it. I was able to truly enjoy flight training here.
