Mr. Zook can be difficult to reach, but usually can accommodate checkrides on relatively short notice. He does require paperwork to be sent to him before your checkride. The oral test was in-depth, and he samples many areas of the ACS, but did not dig very deep if information was correct and whether it was explained well. He was a huge fan of in-depth, practiced, and adaptable lesson plans. I stood while I taught for most lessons, and he seemed to like that. He expected me to come to the checkride with a VFR cross-country flight plan from KJST to KTEB, but we didn't discuss it much. I taught runway incursion avoidance, principles of flight, a sampling of systems, and went through various FOI/endorsement scenarios. He stressed the importance of proper control inputs during taxiing, and this was directly asked of me multiple times. We did break for lunch and then finished the oral. The flight was straightforward; we went to a nearby satellite airport for landings, 9G8. He had me perform all of the required maneuvers, including a cross-controlled stall. He was strict on eights on pylons and wanted to see relatively constant bank and changing pitch. After I performed mine, he took controls and demonstrated an example, and then had me offer instructive feedback on his (He did this to show me what he wanted in 8's on pylons). My overpreparedness in teaching and the oral got me some extra grace during the flight.
